Afghan charged over Munich car attack that killed mother and infant

(AFP) German prosecutors said Tuesday they have charged an Afghan man over a Munich car-ramming attack that killed a two-year-old girl and her mother and wounded dozens more.

The man, identified only as Farhad N., was charged with two counts of murder, 44 counts of attempted murder, bodily harm, aggravated assault and road traffic violations.

“The accused committed the deed out of zealous religious motivation,” prosecutors alleged about the attack on February 13, the eve of an international security conference in the Bavarian state capital.

“He believed himself obliged, in response to the suffering of Muslims in Islamic countries, to attack and kill randomly selected individuals in Germany,” they added.
