(ABC-Australia) A south-east Queensland teenager who made a “pledge of allegiance” to Islamic State and had instructions on “how to conduct lone-wolf-style attacks” will be released from juvenile detention.
The 16-year-old boy, who cannot be identified, was sentenced in Brisbane for one count of being a member of a terrorist organisation, after pleading guilty to the federal charge.
He had already served eight months in custody.
Earlier this week, the Childrens Court of Queensland heard the teenager’s home was raided late last year and “terrorist propaganda” was discovered.
The court heard this included a notebook that contained a written “pledge of allegiance” to the leader of Islamic State and a photograph of the child performing a salute synonymous with the terrorist organisation.
