(Post Millennial) “Squad” member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was named the “American Muslim Public Servant of 2021” after accepting the award [Saturday] evening at a virtual annual gala hosted by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
CAIR, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, said in a press release that Omar was awarded for “her commitment to public service and courage in the face of anti-Muslim bigotry from fellow members of Congress.”
“The past week has reminded us that we still have a long way to go before anti-Muslim hate and bigotry is fully recognized and punished in our [political] discourse,” Omar stated at the livestreamed gala. “But it is also a reminder for us that when we use our voices, when we advocate for our basic rights as Muslims in this country and as Americans, people will rally behind us.”
