(Journal Inquirer) When an FBI agent questioned a Manchester auto mechanic in June 2015 about his involvement with Islamic charities and his shipment of packages to Pakistan, both men had witnesses present.
The mechanic — Fareed Ahmed Khan, 61, who has lived on Hudson Street — is on trial this week in U.S. District Court in New Haven on a charge of making false statements during the interview.
The jury began deliberating Wednesday after hearing legal instructions from Judge Jeffrey Alker Meyer and final arguments from the lawyers.
In the trial’s less than two days of testimony, neither Khan nor his interviewer, FBI Special Agent Keith Hall, testified. But their witnesses did testify, giving starkly different versions of what Khan said during the interview, which wasn’t recorded electronically.
