(NY Post) Rep. Ilhan Omar on Sunday claimed she’s only considered “controversial” because “people want controversy” after she was accused of comparing US migrant detention centers to the slave trade.
“I’m only controversial because people want controversy,” Omar said when asked by CBS News’ Margaret Brennan if she had meant for her comments to be interpreted that way.
On Saturday, a Republican National Committee Twitter account shared a video of Omar discussing her recent trip to Africa, where lawmakers toured a dungeon where slaves being exported to America were kept.
Omar said the tour reminded her of images from today she had seen of people being enslaved in Libya.
