(Hill) Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) weighed in on the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip after escalation this weekend, with both Palestinian militants and Israeli military forces trading rocket fire.
Omar, who in 2018 became one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, appeared to criticize Israel for its continued presence in the Gaza Strip, saying that “only real justice” could bring peace to the region.
“The status quo of occupation and humanitarian crisis in Gaza is unsustainable,” Omar tweeted Sunday. “Only real justice can bring about security and lasting peace.”
A violent flare-up between the two sides over the weekend brought increased scrutiny from U.S. lawmakers to the international conflict.
