Queensland Police’s Facebook post on Ramadan sparks debate

(9 News) A Queensland Police Service Facebook post wishing the public Ramadan Mubarak to mark the start of the Muslim holy month has sparked fierce debate online.

“From all of us, to all in our Muslim community observing the start of the holy month of Ramadan tonight,” the post read, along with an image wishing users Ramadan Mubarak, a greeting somewhat equivalent to “Happy Ramadan.”

The innocuous post yesterday has since racked up more than 3000 comments, with dozens demanding to know why QPS hadn’t wished the public a Happy Easter.

Wading into the perilous world of the comments, the police social media team was quick to remind users that they had done just that — as they had for Hanukkah, Chinese New Year and other significant holidays.
