Government proposes ban on cousin marriages

(Copenhagen Post) The Danish government has prepared legislation to ban marriages between cousins, as reported by the Ministry of Immigration and Integration.

Immigration Minister Rasmus Stoklund views cousin marriages as an outdated, patriarchal tradition inappropriate for Denmark.

The proposal seeks to prohibit these relationships in both marriage and criminal law, including banning religious ceremonies without civic validity for related parties.
