Leicestershire Police and DMU create hijab for front-line Muslim police officers

(ITV) A specially designed hijab for female front-line Muslim police officers has gone into production in Leicestershire after a team effort between the county’s police force and De Montfort University.

The design includes a quick-release system so the lower section detaches if it is pulled during a confrontation between officers and a suspect.

A hijab is a religious head and neck covering which leaves the face clear.

Leicestershire Police says the design team worked with serving Muslim officers before finalising the approved design which is also getting interest from other emergency services organisations, including paramedics, and that it may also go on to be used in the private sector.
