Man who plotted to attack soldiers at Windsor Castle barracks admits terror charges Ilyas Akhtar pleaded guilty to researching weapons, poison, explosive substances and how to make improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and homemade bombs.

(Sky News) A man accused of buying knives and testing chemicals for an attack on soldiers at Windsor Castle barracks has pleaded guilty to a string of terror charges.

Ilyas Akhtar, 20, from Slough, Berkshire, appeared at the Old Bailey by video link from HMP Belmarsh on Friday, wearing a grey prison-issue tracksuit and speaking only to confirm his name and enter guilty pleas.

Between 1 July 2024 and 31 May this year, he accessed the al Qaeda manual and an online al Qaeda magazine called Inspire.

He also researched information about weapons and poison online and looked into explosive substances and the construction of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) online, as well as accessing instructions on how to make a homemade bomb.
