Afghan refugee faces murder trial for fatal stabbing

(BBC) An Afghan migrant has appeared in court accused of fatally stabbing a dog walker in Uxbridge, west London, and injuring two more people.

Safi Dawood, 22, is charged with murdering Wayne Broadhurst, 49, the attempted murder of his landlord and a 14-year-old boy, on 27 October.

At an Old Bailey hearing on Monday, Mr Dawood confirmed his identity by videolink from Wandsworth prison before Judge Mark Lucraft KC set a timetable for the case.

A plea hearing was set for 12 January and a provisional trial of up to three weeks from 20 July next year.

The court was told that Mr Dawood was an Afghan refugee with leave to remain in the UK until 2027.
