(KOMO) Two Lacey parents learned their fate in Thurston County Superior Court Monday for the brutal assault of their daughter outside her school.
Ihsan and Zahraa Ali had previously been accused of trying to kill their then 17-year-old daughter near a bus stop outside Timberline High School in October 2024.
Multiple witnesses reported seeing Mr. Ali trying to strangle his daughter to the point she had a seizure and became unconscious as several students tried to stop him. Eventually adult bystanders were able to pry the teenage victim from her father’s grasp.
The initial investigation indicated Mr. Ali may have threatened his daughter with a so-called “honor killing” for refusing to go to Iraq for an arranged marriage to an older man, but prosecutors later wrote in court documents, “There is no express evidence that such was the motivation of either defendant in this case.”
