Moroccan man sets fire to El Pozuelo church

(Euro Weekly) A shocking act of arson has devastated the small parish church in El Pozuelo, a village within the municipality of Albuñol, Granada. On Sunday, August 17, a 21-year-old man of Moroccan origin was arrested after allegedly setting fire to the building, leaving its interior badly damaged and the local community shaken.

According to eyewitnesses and police reports, the man forced his way inside the church, destroyed religious furnishings, and then started several fires using a lighter. Flames quickly spread through the nave and sacristy, destroying benches, textiles, and much of the wooden structure. Neighbours rushed to the scene and attempted to stop the blaze before firefighters from Motril and Guardia Civil officers were able to bring it under control.
