Government accuses former hospital chaplain of ‘murder and terrorism’ activities; lawyers deny claim

(Cincinnati Enquirer) Federal lawyers accused a former Cincinnati hospital chaplain of “murder and terrorism related activities” in a recent court filing that argues he should not be considered for asylum in the United States.

The claims, revealed Aug. 7 in federal court, contend that criminal warrants in Iraq connect Ayman Soliman to those offenses. But the government provided few details about the allegations, and Soliman’s lawyers said they are false.

According to the court filing, which was written by Soliman’s lawyers, attorneys with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security made the claims in July in immigration court. Soliman’s lawyers have been seeking his release from jail since immigration agents arrested him July 9.
