(VRT) The convicted terrorist Nizar Trabelsi is on his way to Belgium from the United States. VRT NWS has learned from a reliable source that the US is extraditing Trabelsi, who was convicted of terrorist offences and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by a Belgian court in the early 2000s. He planned an attack [on] the Klein-Brogel airbase in Limburg Province.
Nizar Trabelsi is a Tunisian national. He was a member of the terrorist organisation Al-Qaeda. After his trial in Belgium, he was extradited to the United States, where he also stood trial.
There he spent 10 years on remand awaiting his trial, at which he was acquitted. Despite his acquittal he remained in custody for another two years.
