(Yle) Chancellor of Justice Tuomas Pöysti on Wednesday ruled that Interior Minister Mari Rantanen (Finns) did not act unlawfully in the preparation of this year’s refugee quota.

Under the refugee quota, Finland admits persons recognised as refugees by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

Pöysti’s ruling follows a report by the non-discrimination ombudsman that indicated Finland’s Interior Ministry acted in a discriminatory manner as it prepared the country’s quota refugee plan for this year.

The office found that the ministry favoured asylum seekers from Christian-majority countries when it provided instructions to officials working on the quota refugee policy.
