(DPA) Austria’s next government could ban girls up to the age of 14 from wearing headscarves, under the terms of a coalition deal reached by three centrist parties on Thursday.
According to the parties’ programme, presented in Vienna, a ban is being drafted on headscarves for young girls to protect them “from segregation and oppression.”
The deal between the conservative Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP), the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) and the liberal NEOS ends months of political uncertainty in Austria after the far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) won September’s elections.
