Teen suspected of planning attack on Israel’s Berlin embassy arrested

(DPA) German authorities have arrested an 18-year-old man suspected of having planned a politically motivated attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin, security sources told dpa on Friday.

Security authorities assume an Islamist motive, according to information obtained by dpa.

Police arrested the suspect, a Russian national, at Berlin’s international airport just outside the German capital on Thursday as he was trying to leave the country, security sources told dpa.

The man is suspected of wanting to join the terrorist militia Islamic State, sources within a security agency told dpa.

According to these sources, the man from the state of Brandenburg surrounding Berlin intended to depart from the airport to join Islamic State, according to the investigators’ findings.
