(ITV) More than 25,000 migrants have crossed the English Channel since Keir Starmer became prime minister, according to provisional Home Office data.
A total of 25,135 migrants have crossed the Channel since July 5, 2024, including 240 people who made the journey in four boats on Saturday. This brings the total for 2025 to 1,893.
Saturday’s provisional total was the second-highest this year after 260 migrants crossed the Channel on January 13.
At least 36,816 people crossed the English Channel in 2024.
Home Office data shows migrant arrivals last year jumped by 25% from 29,437 in 2023 but were 20% lower than the record 45,774 in 2022.
