(ANSA) Milan prosecutors are investigating at least five cases of alleged sexual assault during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Piazza Duomo in the northern Italian city, legal sources said Friday.
The alleged abuse came in the form of collective harassment of “taharrush gamea,” an Islamic term for assault and even rape that was allegedly practised in Tahrir Square in Cairo in 2011, in Cologne in 2015, and more recently in India.
On Friday morning, interviewed in Liège also by investigators of the Flying Squad, a Belgian girl, who was with five friends, reported and confirmed allegations of assault given to the media.
