(Nola.com) More than a week after the vehicle attack on Bourbon Street that left 14 dead and dozens more injured, ISIS on Thursday touted the incident, writing in its newsletter that it inspired the assailant through online propaganda.
Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas Army veteran, posted a series of videos on Facebook before the attack in which he pledged allegiance to ISIS. His truck carried an ISIS flag on the back. Investigators have been probing how he was radicalized and whether he was in contact with ISIS or influenced by their online content.
ISIS, whose caliphate has been decimated by U.S.-led forces, has grown a sophisticated media operation that includes English-language propaganda encouraging lone actors to commit massacres much like Jabbar’s.
