(Buffalo News) Jurors delivered guilty verdicts Friday for the father and brother of a woman who was lured to Yemen and stranded there, in what prosecutors called a kidnapping plot to prevent the former Lackawanna resident from marrying a man the family disapproved of, in favor of an arranged marriage.
The jury deliberated for about three hours before convicting Khaled Abughanem, 52, and his son Adham Abughanem, 28, of two counts each of conspiracy to kidnap a person in a foreign country. Khaled Abughanem, the victim’s father, was also convicted of retaliating against a victim.
Both men face a sentence of life in prison.
Attorneys for both men said they intend to file post-verdict motions to quash the verdicts.
