(Politico) A pro-Palestinian advocate is running for vice chair of the Democratic National [Committee] — a bid that comes on the heels of President-elect Donald Trump’s victory in the critical swing state of Michigan. Trump carried Dearborn, a majority-Arab American city outside Detroit that previously favored Democrats.
James Zogby, president of the Arab American Institute and a longtime DNC member, told POLITICO that he expects to formally launch his campaign in the coming days.
He said in an interview that he was motivated to run after Trump’s victory left him “unhappy for 10 minutes, and then I got mad.” He criticized Vice President Kamala Harris’ decision to campaign with former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney. He also said the party was too “focused on suburban women and not on white working-class people” in the Rust Belt.
