(Montreal Gazette) With the Legault government saying the evidence shows Quebec’s secularism law was being flouted, 11 teachers at Montreal’s Bedford elementary school have had their teaching licences suspended by the Education Ministry pending the conclusions of an investigation.

And the government has set in motion a review of its school secularism policies to see if they need to be modified or applied more aggressively in the wake of the controversy, which has sent shock waves through a government that prides itself on its laicity agenda.

“Like many Quebecers, I was angered at what happened at Bedford school,” Premier François Legault told reporters Tuesday as he arrived for question period. “This is no small matter. We have to tell it like it is.”
