(Montreal Gazette) Saying she fears for her safety and that of her family, St-Laurent MNA Marwah Rizqy has asked for police protection.
Rizqy was repeatedly insulted after denouncing the situation at Bedford elementary school that came to light in a recent investigation by the Education Ministry. A report revealed a “toxic” climate at the Côte-des-Neiges school, and 11 teachers at the school have had their licences suspended by the ministry.
On Tuesday, Premier François Legault told reporters: “We have a group of teachers who tried to introduce Islamic religious concepts into a Quebec public school, putting aside science as a way of helping students.”
Among those who have criticized Rizqy are controversial imam Adil Charkaoui, who said Rizqy was exaggerating and called her a token Moroccan.
