(DPA) Germany remains a major target for various terrorist organizations, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) said.
Sven Kurenbach, the head of BKA’s department focused on Islamist-motivated terrorism and extremism, told the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung that extremist organization Islamic State has never truly disappeared. His comments were published on Thursday.
Kurenbach said that authorities have been registering an increase in relevant threat indications for the past two years, with Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), an offshoot of Islamic State, increasingly pursuing an international agenda.
Additionally, Russia’s war against Ukraine made the eastern border more permeable, allowing individuals from Central Asia, “suspected of having links to the ISKP,” to enter the country, Kurenbach said.
