(WBAL) Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown announced the names of 15 people appointed to the Commission on Hate Crime Response and Prevention.
Brown said the commission’s goals are to combat hate, address underreported incidents and provide guidance and policy recommendations. But the choices of 15 people reflect new changes approved this year by state lawmakers.
One notable name is absent from the list: Zainab Chaudry, director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Maryland.
“CAIR was not one of the nine named organizations appointed under the new legislation, Maryland House Bill 763. We are unable to comment directly on any applications received or not received to fill the additional 15 spots as doing so is prohibited by the Public Information Act (PIA),” the attorney general’s office said.
