Settlement preparations underway in lawsuit over hijab removal at Warren County Regional Jail

(WBKO) A lawsuit filed in federal court in November 2023 against staff at the Warren County Regional Jail by a Muslim woman alleging deprivation of her religious rights has taken a new turn.

The lawsuit alleges the woman was made to remove her hijab upon being booked at the jail, among other allegations.

A hijab is a traditional headscarf worn by some Muslim women to cover their hair, neck, and sometimes their ears, but leaving their face exposed. It is worn as a symbol of modesty and privacy following Islamic beliefs.

According to a notice filed Monday, the woman has reached a settlement agreement regarding certain claims with Warren County Jailer Stephen Harmon and Deputy Jailer Brooke L. Harp.
