(Swedish Radio) Iran is suspected of a plot to murder Swedish Jews, a Swedish Radio investigation reveals.
An Iranian couple, a man and a woman acting as undercover agents, are believed to have targeted three Swedish Jews, among them Aron Verständig, chair of the Official Council of Swedish Jewish Communities. One of the other potential targets was a dual US citizen.
The suspected undercover agents lived in Sweden with fake identities for more than five years.
“In September 2021 I received a call from the Swedish Security Service. They basically told me that you have been named as one of the targets of a possible terror crime that involves murder,” said Aron Verständig.
In April 2021, an Iranian couple was arrested in the Stockholm area, suspected of conspiracy to commit a terrorist crime, through murder. But the suspected targets of the attack were never revealed.
