(National Post) The federal Conservatives are asking for the inquiry into foreign interference to look specifically at Iran’s potential meddling in Canada’s elections.

The inquiry began hearings this week on the topic of foreign interference in Canada. It was created after multiple reports last year of widespread interference from China in Canada’s elections.

The official mandate calls for Commissioner Marie-Josée Hogue to “examine and assess interference by China, Russia and other foreign states or non-state actors,” in Canada’s democratic process.

Conservative party lawyer Nando De Luca wrote Hogue Tuesday and said that Iran must be a specific focus of the inquiry.
