(Detroit News) The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said Monday it plans to sue the Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard’s office for the alleged “forcible removal” of a Dearborn woman’s hijab when she was detained last year in the county jail.
Oakland County sheriffs officials denied the allegation, insisting that the woman’s hijab was removed “in a very respectful manner so that it could be searched for contraband.”
Canton Township-based CAIR sent a notice of claim on Jan. 16 alerting Bouchard of its intention to sue him and his office for what allegedly happened in August to the woman, whose name was redacted from a copy of the filing that CAIR provided Monday to the media.
