Montreal resident charged with inciting hatred and violence toward Jewish people The charge reportedly involves comments posted on social media days after Hamas's Oct. 7 attack on Israel.

(Montreal Gazette) A Montreal resident faces a criminal charge alleging he incited hatred and called for violence toward Jewish people beginning just days after Hamas carried out the Oct. 7 attack in Israel.

The charge filed against Houssem Hammami, 37, became public at the Montreal courthouse on Wednesday. He has been summoned to make his first court appearance later this month. He is alleged to have incited hatred, between Oct. 14 and Nov. 1, toward a group and “such incitement is likely to result in a breach of the peace.”

He is charged under a section of the Criminal Code punishable by summary conviction. The case was investigated by the RCMP’s C Division based in Westmount.
