(ABC-Australia) A 16-year-old schoolboy is now eligible to apply for parole after pleading guilty to multiple terrorism offences, including possessing “extremely graphic and quite disturbing” videos.
The boy, who was aged 14 at the time of the offending and cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced as an adult to three years in prison in Adelaide’s District Court on Friday.
He previously pleaded guilty to producing extremist material, using explosive instructions, and possessing information for a terrorist attack in 2022.
During sentencing on Friday, Judge Paul Muscat said he found it “difficult to make a proper assessment of [the boy’s] risk to the community,” but backdated his 18-month non-parole period to take into account the 20 months he has already served in youth detention, meaning he is now eligible to apply for parole.
