(AFP) German counter-terror authorities Wednesday took over a probe into a suspected jihadist arrested for allegedly planning an attack, with a pro-Israel demonstration a possible target, prosecutors said.
The 29-year-old was detained late Tuesday at his home in the western city of Duisburg, with authorities saying he was being investigated on suspicion of conspiring to commit murder and manslaughter.
Authorities did not disclose his identity but media outlets named him as Tarik S., a German-Egyptian with a long history of involvement in jihadist activities.
Prosecutors said Wednesday that counter-terror officials were taking over the investigation, and the suspect had been remanded in custody.
