Opening statements in Taos compound trial

(KOAT) A jury has been selected in the Taos compound trial and opening statements and the first witness took the stand today.

The case made national headlines after it was tied to terrorist activity allegations. Five adults — Jany Leveille, Lucas Morton, Siraj Wahhaj, and his two sisters Hujrah and Subhannah — are facing charges in connection to a raid of a compound back in 2018.

On the property, police discovered guns, ammo, and 11 malnourished kids.

Police also found the body of a missing 3-year-old boy, Abdul-Ghani Wahhaj.

KOAT was inside documenting today’s opening statements and witness testimony, however, cameras were not allowed in the courtroom.
