(National Post) Zakaria Amara, once the firebrand leader of an al-Qaida-inspired terrorist group planning mass casualty attacks in Ontario, has been working at a watch shop and engaging in de-radicalization therapy while on day parole.

No longer deemed a danger by the RCMP, Amara’s transition from leader of the Toronto 18 jihadi terror plotters through 17 years in prison to his return into the community has been positive enough for him to be granted additional parole privileges.

“You appear to be committed to your long-term rehabilitation and your reintegration into the community has gone well to date,” a panel of the Parole Board of Canada told Amara in a decision released this week.
