(PennLive) A man accused of stabbing an Allenwood Federal Penitentiary corrections officer in the eye in 2020 will not be permitted to plead no contest to two of the charges against him.
U.S. Middle District Judge Matthew W. Brann Monday ruled justice is best served by a clear-cut determination of the guilt or innocence of Kuwait-born Abdulrahman el Bahnasawy.
He had sought permission to enter a no-contest plea to two counts of assault on a federal officer.
Accepting such a plea would place the court in the difficult position of imposing a sentence without the defendant ever admitting guilt or having been found guilty by a jury, the judge wrote.
