(Stamford Advocate) Columbus Day and Veterans Day — traditionally celebrated by Stamford schools with a day off — may be class days if a proposed calendar is accepted.
On the other hand, Stamford schools are looking at adding an additional no-class day to celebrate and recognize the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr.
The proposed changes were presented during a recent meeting led by the Stamford Parent-Teacher Council and Superintendent Tamu Lucero.
“I did have many of our Muslim families come and have a great discussion with me last year and I know that that’s something that we want to consider,” Lucero said of adding Eid al-Fitr, one of the major Muslim holidays meant to celebrate the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan.
