Al-Hol relatives may seek compensation from Finnish state Three Finnish children remain at the displacement camp in northern Syria, with a UN committee reprimanding Finland for delaying their repatriation.

(Yle) Relatives of Finnish children living in the Al-Hol displacement camp in northern Syria are investigating the possibility of receiving compensation from the Finnish government.

The move comes after the UN Child Rights Committee (CRC) last week issued a severe reprimand to Finland for failing to repatriate the Finnish children still living in the camp.

The committee’s decision was based on a case filed in 2019 by relatives on behalf of six children, who were born in Syria to parents with alleged connections to Da’esh, the ISIL terrorist group.

Since the case was filed, three of those children have been able to leave the camp with their mother and arrived in Finland while three others, aged between 5 and 6 years old, remain at Al-Hol.
