Ministry: Finland has done everything possible to repatriate Finnish children from Syria Finland takes the ruling by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child 'very seriously,' according to a senior Foreign Ministry official.

(Yle) The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has reacted to Wednesday’s ruling against Finland by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.

The committee declared that Finland had violated the rights of Finnish children in northern Syria by not repatriating them from the al-Hol camp, where relatives of suspected ISIS combatants are detained.

Finland takes the ruling “very seriously,” said Jussi Tanner, director general of consular services at the ministry.

He said that Finland has held the same view as the committee since 2019, i.e. that the children’s status represented a serious violation of their fundamental rights and one that requires the state to act.
