(Politico) Muslim community leaders told Mayor Eric Adams during a closed-door meeting Tuesday that a high-ranking member of the NYPD should face consequences for claiming the department never surveilled Muslims in the wake of 9/11 — with one attendee calling for the ouster of John Miller, deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism.

The roundtable, held at City Hall with roughly 30 leaders from the Muslim community, was previously scheduled but happened to coincide with the aftermath of Miller’s controversial testimony at a Friday City Council hearing on the NYPD’s budget.

During the meeting Tuesday, Adams acknowledged the problems of the surveillance program and relayed a personal story of being spied on by the NYPD himself when he was an outspoken member of the force, according to Council Member Shahana Hanif, who questioned Miller during Friday’s hearing, released a scathing response afterward and called for his firing in the closed-door meeting with the mayor.
