(ANSA) A suspected “radicalised” Moroccan Islamist suspected of terrorism who escaped from Avellino jail south of Naples on January 11 was caught at Metz in northeast France Sunday, but a second jail breaker, a 21-year-old Romanian, is still on the run, sources said on Monday.

Hassin Kalifi, 40, was serving a prison term for drug trafficking and had been converted to radical Islam in jail, sources said.

He was arrested on a European warrant issued by Trento police alerted by Naples anti-mafia prosecutors for drug trafficking.

Kalifi was apprehended by French police.

The young Romanian, Florin Mocian, broke out of jail with Kalifi and another man who was injured in the jail break and soon captured.
