(CNS) U.S. Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides dismissed as “absurd” Amnesty International’s claim that Israel is an “apartheid” state — and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is outraged.
“Come on, this is absurd,” Nides said on Twitter in response to the release of the new Amnesty report. “That is not language that we have used and will not use.”
CAIR, which describes itself as the nation’s biggest Muslim civil rights and advocacy group, had earlier welcomed the human rights advocacy group’s report “as further recognition of what has been blazingly obvious.”
It condemned what it called Nides’ “dismissive and offensive” tweet.
“Dismissing this detailed and comprehensive report as absurd without even reading it is offensive,” said CAIR national deputy director Edward Ahmed Mitchell.
