French singer Maitre Gims: New year, birthday wishes not Islamic The singer took to his social media to urge his fans to stop sending new year and birthday wishes.

(Morocco World News) French-Congolese rapper and singer Maitre Gims has infuriated many of his fans after he released a video calling on them to stop sending him new year and birthday wishes.

In a video Gims posted on his social media, the iconic singer said birthday and new year wishes are not part of Muslims’ beliefs.

“I never responded to this, but you keep sending me through January and February. Muslims stop it,” he said in reaction to wishes he had received from fans.

Addressing his Muslim fans, he said: “Brothers, we don’t celebrate that. It’s not part of our belief.”

“Did the [prophet’s companions] celebrate the new year? No!,” Maitre Gims added.
