Rep. Ilhan Omar: ‘People need to stop using Muslim women as tropes in their social commentary’

(CNS) Rep. Ilhan Omar (D.-Minn.) on Thursday tweeted out — and criticized — a cartoon that had been done on Wednesday by Mike Luckovich, the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The cartoon showed two Muslim women in burkas. One was saying to the other: “Pray for Texas women.”

On Tuesday, the Biden administration had completed the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court had declined to issue an injunction against a Texas law that bans abortions of unborn babies who have a detectable heartbeat.
