(WA Today) A Perth Uber driver who slit his wife’s throat and left her bleeding on the floor just two months into their forced marriage will spend at least 19 years behind bars.
Mohammad Ali Halimi, 25, was sentenced in WA’s Supreme Court on Monday to life in prison with a minimum term of 19 years for the murder of Ruqia Haidari, 21, at their Balcatta home last year. His sentence was backdated to January 18, 2020, when he was taken into custody.
Details of the couple’s troubled and loveless marriage were aired in court during the first day of Halimi’s sentencing last week, shining a light on the grim reality of forced marriages in Australia.
