(NY Daily News) A Queens community activist challenging New York Rep. Carolyn Maloney in the 2022 midterm elections set a new fundraising record for progressive primary candidates in the first quarter of her campaign, her latest financial disclosure shows.
Rana Abdelhamid, 28, raked in more than $411,265 from 5,000 individual donors between her April 14 campaign kickoff and June 30, according to the records, which Abdelhamid’s campaign provided to the Daily News ahead of releasing them Monday.
That’s the largest first campaign quarter haul for any primary challenger backed by Justice Democrats, the grassroots progressive group that helped elect New York Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman and other left-leaning members of Congress.
