Two women in Perth plead guilty to planning genital mutilation of newborn baby

(7 News) Two women have pleaded guilty to planning genital mutilation surgery on a baby girl in Perth.

The girl’s mother Sarah Lightbody, 23, and her co-accused, Noridah Binte Mohd, 50, appeared in Armadale Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The pair admitted asking a doctor to perform the illegal practice of “female cutting” on the two-week-old baby in January this year.

But they have pleaded guilty to only planning the procedure because it didn’t happen.

The doctor refused and alerted the police.
