Accused Islamic State soldier from Dearborn vows to kill legal team, prosecutors say

(Detroit News) An accused Islamic State soldier from Dearborn has threatened to kill his lawyer if released on bond, federal prosecutors say, but his legal team is trying to free him anyway.

The alleged threat, Ibraheem Musaibli’s support of violent extremism and contempt for the United States highlight why the man should stay in jail, prosecutors said, pending an October trial on terrorism charges punishable by up to 50 years in prison. U.S. District Judge David Lawson will consider releasing Musaibli on bond Monday.

“Musaibli’s continued disdain for America coupled with his repeated demands to be sent to Yemen make him both a flight risk and a danger to the community,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Mulcahy wrote in a court filing.
