Brothers accused of trying to plan a terrorist act front court

(Age) Two brothers with no criminal history have fronted a court in Melbourne, charged with attempting to plan a terrorist act.

Ari Sherani, 20, and Aran Sherani, 19, from the Melbourne suburb of Epping, fronted the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday after they were arrested by counter-terrorism police in raids on Wednesday.

They are both charged with attempting to plan a terrorist act in Humevale, north-east of Melbourne near Whittlesea, on February 18.

Aran Sherani has also been charged with intentionally causing injury on March 9 in Preston, and is accused of buying a knife on March 17 in preparation for a terrorist act, court documents show.

He is also accused of being a member of the terrorist organisation Islamic State.
